The Summary of the Survey

Currently, we created this survey since it is really relevant for our future higher studies. In addition, it gives us better ideas on how we can manage our money. The main hypothesis of our survey is that “an International student should have a basic knowledge on tackling their own finances by managing their earnings and expenses.” We used Google Forms to create a questionnaire to collect information from International students. In this survey, we included two types of questions to get information which are: open-ended questions and close-ended questions.

Nyland et al. (2009, p.1) states that “the international education market has generated a new workforce of some 300,000 international student-workers in Australia. Recent research has shown many of these workers experience severe financial problems and are consequently highly vulnerable to exploitation”. In our study too, we tried to explore this issue on financial problems.

According to this survey, we found the results that international students could save money in addition to their expenses, the major expenses that they have to face every day, how difficult it is to balance their studies and part time jobs as a student, and how many part time jobs they have in Australia.

Firstly, we identified through this survey a majority of international students manage their studies while doing part-time jobs on weekdays. They gave different answers to that. Some students do part-time jobs at night time and focus on managing all the things very well. Regarding how difficult it is to manage their studies and part-time jobs as a student, they answered that it was difficult but they managed all the work successfully. Moreover, they had to spend a big amount of money on their food, tuition fees, and vehicle expenses. Most students engaged in two part-time jobs to earn money.

According to Mewett et al. (2009, p.6), the international literature suggests that financial difficulties are experienced by a large minority of international students and that finances are a common source of insecurity and distress within this community.

International students have various types of financial difficulties because they are living in highly developed countries. Therefore, they happen to pay attention to their finance. Most of the students responded that they had gone through the most difficult period since they happen to balance their studies and part-time jobs together. One of our participants answered one question of the survey form which is: "how difficult to balance your studies and part-time jobs?" as “It’s difficult but we have to go through difficult things for great achievements.” However, it was evident that the students try their level best to manage their studies and part-time jobs properly.

  1. Impressive blog post.
You have summarized the survey findings effectively and connected it with previous literature. Reference list looks promising too.

If you have connected the reading from Mewett et al. (2009, p.6) to your survey findings, it would have been more relevant.

    Overall, good job.
